North American TDMA networks (e.g. AT&T Wireless, Rogers AT&T) have recently gained the ability to send as well as receive SMS (short message service) messages. Unfortunately, the phones that support the TDMA network (IS136) differ than those supporting the GSM network in Europe, so the SMS applications for Pocket PC don't work with them. We've spent a fair amount of time investigating how the TDMA phones work, and have come up with a simple "Send SMS" application to send an SMS message from a Pocket PC connected via serial cable to one of these phones.
If your phone is not listed above, you can test it by attaching it to your Pocket PC using a serial cable (which you can usually get from the same place you bought your phone), starting TdmaSms and selecting File->Sniff Phone. TdmaSms will report if the phone is capable of receiving and sending SMS messages using the IS136 standard. Other Notes
Download & Installation Download either the SH3 (for HP Jornada series Pocket PCs) or ARM (for iPaq Pocket PCs) version of TdmaSms.exe. Using ActiveSync, copy it to your Programs directory (My Pocket PC\Windows\Start Menu\Programs) and execute it from the start menu (Start Menu->Programs->TdmaSms).
